Project: This was Fluke’s first LAN testing tool. This was a new group of users for Fluke and Fluke needed more information about what they needed and how they worked. Another challenge was to provide meaningful information and intuitive navigation using a 2-line LCD.
Method: I conducted interviews with target users to better understand their work and what they expected and needed from a cable meter. I then storyboarded an initial design for team discussion and created a prototype in Macromedia Director. We took this prototype on the road for usability testing. I conducted two rounds of prototyping and usability testing. I then modified the prototype based on the test results and the detailed prototype served as an interactive UI specification.
